Toyota 4Runner 4WD system?

I have a 2011 4runner. It has a manual 4WD selector thingy. It's a lever not a knob. And it can move in a "U" pattern. There is 2WD, 4HI, N, and 4LO. Is there a difference between the neutral on this selector and the one on the gear shifter??
