What Are the best beginner books or webpages on DIY guitar fx pedals?

I want to try building a pedal on my own and I got confused. I have been trying to find a site or a book, that is totally for beginners - something, that takes me through the process step by step and that has got some projects to build step by step. I know that there are tons of schematics out there, but they don't actually show, where I should put the knobs, buttons etc. And yeah, I know that it isn't easy, but I want to try something new. you know, using your custom made pedal is much more better than using one, that you bought in a store.
